Malus domestica (McIntosh)
Apple Bake
2 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
½ cup butter, softened
1 cup chopped nuts
1-2 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Soda
½ tsp. Salt
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 egg
2 cups finely chopped apples
Mix flour, sugar and butter. Blend at low speed until crumbly, then stir in nuts. Press 2-3/4 cups of mixture into an ungreased 9" x 13" pan. To the remaining mix of crumbs, add everything else. Then apples. Spoon evenly over the crumb mix and bake. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes.
Mom found this recipe of mine in her collection even though I haven't seen hide-nor-hare of this recipe for years! She's gonna make it with Dad's McIntosh apples and freeze it so if you want to copy cat Mom and freeze some for your surprise house guests, call her to see how it held up after being in the freezer!
