This picture marks the day when Mow-Mow was furious at her daughter. She didn’t get mad often but holy po-boys, she was mad this time! You see, prior to leaving for school that morning, she had taken extra time to style Mom's hair. It was "picture day" and the way things were back in the 1930's, it might be the only time the entire year when kids would have their pictures taken.
Later that afternoon, when Mom returned home, Mow-Mow nearly had a heart attack. “What on earth did you do to YOUR HAIR?”, she asked.
"A friend fixed my hair. Don't you like it?"
"Why on earth did you let those girls fix YOUR HAIR?" she insisted.
Evidently, Mom’s friends thought they could do a better job and this is the style they came up with! Mom is pretty sure they never had a mirror in the bathroom, so she had no idea what her hair looked like. Now Mom wonders if this so-called friend, the hairdresser-with-an-attitude, was a frenemy!
Actually, I LOVE this picture and wouldn't change those giant steam rollers for the finest hair-do in the South. You are precious, Mom. Have you ever noticed that our 'oddest' photos end up being our favorites?
Not that your hair is 'odd' or anything........................................
p.s. I fixed your collar!
Love,
Carolyn
