Our Front Door!
Just in case y'all thought we weren't doing anything, here's the final results of a week's worth of hard labor. Our front door was such a mess. The finish had broken down and the wood had begun to split. It was so hideous (how come we don't notice what bad shape the front door is in?? Is it because we use the garage all the time?). Quite honestly, I didn't know if the door was salvageable and had we let it go another winter, it'd be a total mess.
I got online (no, duh!) and found out if you live in snow country, you need to apply heavy-duty varnish every other year or so. Most people aren't interested in working that hard to keep up a front door so there ya go, that's the beauty of steel!
I used Spar Urethane and if you've ever worked with that stuff, it's like painting with corn syrup. I have never ever managed to pull off such a gorgeous finish in my whole life which is why I'm sharing a picture with everybody.
Michael helped me sand the woodwork. That took two days with electric sanders. What a nasty job that was! He stuck it out and we finished in a week's time. Yes. One week. At least a few hours almost every day. Can you believe it?
We also refinished the patio door off the kitchen. It's no showpiece. Just plain ol' paint the color of primer but at least we fixed the splitting frame. It's hard to believe we've owned this house for five years now!
So that's what we did this week. How about everybody else?
Love,
Carolyn
p.s. I figured there must have been an invisible hand helping me brush on the varnish...when I saw this picture, I could not believe my eyes! O yes indeed, there was a fairy! And she was sitting right on top of the door!
